About This Dataset
ERBB2 mutations are rare in breast cancer, occurring with a frequency of around 2% to 3% and are enriched in lobular cancers. The rarity of these mutations has hampered efforts to assess the prognostic and phenotypic characteristics of breast cancers harboring an ERBB2 mutation. While limited, studies have indicated a poorer prognosis with shorter recurrence-free survival intervals. Given the rarity of ERBB2 mutations within the metastatic breast cancer population, we worked with the Project Genomics Evidence Neoplasia Information Exchange (GENIE), launched in 2015 by the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), to collect data on a large cohort across multiple academic centers. To provide comprehensive information about the prognosis and phenotype of HR+, HER2-negative (HER2-), ERBB2-mutated breast cancer tumors, GENIE conducted an international, multi-institutional, retrospective, case-control study to describe the clinical, pathologic, and genomic features, as well as survival and benefit from standard and HER2-targeted therapies, notably TKIs.
